A 3,000-watt, inverter generator weighing more than 130 pounds has gone missing from a Calaveras County Sheriff’s Search-and-Rescue Team trailer, the Sheriff’s Office is calling it a theft discovered Monday, and authorities are asking for help from the public to try to recover the generator.

The inverter generator is described as a Honda EU3000, and the Sheriff’s Office shared a photo of a EU3000is model, which costs $2,399 new at retail outlets like Camping World and Home Depot.

A search-and-rescue volunteer found the generator missing from an incident support trailer parked in a fenced county facility in Arnold on Monday, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Greg Stark said in a statement. A perimeter fence had been cut, and someone had gained entry to the trailer by defeating a locking mechanism.

The team used the generator during off-grid search-and-rescue incidents and for communications, map making, and lighting in the field, Stark said.

Although the team includes assigned deputies, most members are volunteers, who raise most of the money required for equipment purchases and maintenance, Stark said.

“The replacement of the generator will consume funds that were already budgeted for other equipment necessary for direct search-and-rescue activity,” Stark said.

Anyone with information about the missing generator is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (209) 754-6500. Tipsters who want to remain anonymous can call (209) 754-6030.
